When choosing the right community for yourself or a loved one, there is a lot to consider and evaluate. Below is a comprehensive list of Frequently Asked Questions to help finalize your decision.

What is independent living and how is it different from a senior apartment or assisted living? 

In an Independent Living community such as Magnolia Grand you can expect to reside in a private apartment of your choice (studio, one bedroom or two bedroom) where you are free to come and go as you wish.  Coupled with that freedom and independence you will also have an opportunity to dine daily in a restaurant style dining room, have access to transportation and a full schedule of activity programs and outings to participate in if you are interested.  Weekly housekeeping services, apartment upkeep and basic utilities are included in your monthly rent.   If you need assistance you are free to hire a caregiver to visit you in your home.

In a traditional senior apartment complex you would reside with other seniors who prefer to continue doing their own cooking and cleaning and are not as interested in the social aspects and amenities available in Independent Living.   

In an assisted living community you would have access to 24 hour health care services staff and a nursing department that can create a care plan for you based on your needs.   Many assisted living communities also provide memory care services for residents suffering from Alzheimer’s and related dementias. 

Do you accept Medicare or Medi-Cal?

We are a private pay community and do not except either of these payment options.  However, there is a benefit for veterans that may help you cover some of the cost of your stay.  We can refer you to someone who can help you determine if you would be eligible.  

Would I have to sign a long term lease?

When you move into Magnolia Grand you will sign a lease that locks in your rental rate for the year.  Based on the rate of inflation on our own expenses you can expect an annual increase that will enable us to maintain the quality and level of services that we provide to our residents.  If you decide to move out of the community for any reason we simply ask for a 30 day written notice.

Do you offer a vegetarian Menu?

While we do not offer a full vegetarian menu, we do have several options to choose from that would meet most dietary needs.  We would welcome you to check out our menu or arrange to join us for a meal.

Do you have staff on site 24 hours per day?

While we do not have 24 hour staff we do have a community services director who is responsible for all aspects of the community and services to our residents, a business office manager who handles all of our resident’s monthly rent payments and financial questions, a maintenance director who makes sure that everything is fully operational and functioning, an activity director who plans social programs and outings, a chef who leads a culinary team to create exciting, nutritious meals for our residents and a community relations director who helps new potential residents decide whether or not to make Magnolia Grand their new home.
